Merry post-apocalyptic Christmas

I hope everyone is having a good holiday break and perhaps received gift-wrapped reinforcements under their tree. No post today but I did want to reprise my favourite holiday-themed post.

This fellow was from Black Peter's HoTT Santa Army which I cobbled together from various bits and pieces. I believe Santa is a GW Gimli on top of a Heroclix reindeer. The rest of the army (click the link) included a bunch of elves (snowball armed hobbits), hounds and stone-faced snowmen.

FS painted 28mm celtic army

As part of my ongoing purge of troops, I have for sale a painted 28mm Celtic army. They come from a smoke- and pet-free home and all figures are based on 60mm frontages. I think the standout piece is this camp, where a druid seems to be vigorously rejecting the offer of a merchant while being mindful of his large friend. These are metal Warlord Games figures.

The bulk of the army are these warband. There are 12 three-man bases and one four-man command base. The shields are decalled for the most part and the figures are Wargames Factory.

Sorry the depth of field is so wonky in the shot below but, if you ignore the blurry guy in the foreground,  I think it shows off the shields and detailing nicely. These are maybe my best painting. Lots of detail on the clothing and generally hairy-chested barbarity.

There are eight bases of skirmishers, with a mix of slings, bows and spears. I've used these troops for DBA/HoTT but they'd also do for WAB or Hail Caesar. The figures will also slip their bases with a short soak if you need them individually based.

There are four chariots with crew and riders. I've sculpted a few capes and generally garrished these guys up. There are two general options here--a guy with a standard and a lady with a spear.

There are also four bases of characters. These include a hero chieftain, a base of three druids/witches, a naked druid with standing stone and a circular base for a leader--the fellow is holding a severed head (sorry the shot is hazy on the right).

Finally, there are two bases of medium cavalry and three bases of lighter cavalry.

FS Painted 28mm Roman Army

The old must go to make room for the new so I will be liquidating a bunch of 28mm ancient armies over the next few days. Up first is a large, painted 28mm Roman army (mix of Republican and early Imperials). All come from a smoke- and pet-free home and I will cover the cost of shipping in Canada or the US.

There are 11 bases of legionnaires. Two of the bases (back row) have longer spears so could be used as triarii if you were so inclined. These are all Wargames Factory figures. Basing is 60mm frontages but these would come off their bases with a quick soak if you wanted. This group includes a general stand.

There are also six bases of early Imperials from Warlord Games. Again 60mm frontages and a general stand.

I converted some Wargames Factory legionnaires to make four bases of auxilia. I quite like the hand-painted shields and mixed clothing on these guys.

There are three bases of Wargames Factory Roman cavalry--two heavy one light and they include an optional general stand.

I also converted two bases of cavalry into centaurs to give the army a fantasy option.

There is one ballista (maybe Zvezda) with Wargames Factory crew conversions.

There are five bases of light troops--a mix of Wargames Factory and (I think) Old Glory. Some slingers, some spears.

There are four command-style bases. Two are circular mounts and would allow you to split this army for Roman civil wars. One fellow is decked our as per the Republicans; the other guys is more Imperial.

There are also two Warlord Games metal general--one guy on a horse and one guy on foot. I have used these as fantasy units (heros, magicians) sometimes.

Finally, there is a camp with Warlord Games metals and some plastic troopers in the background. The general appears to be making a sacrifice while his lady-friend and slave look on. This is a 120mmx120mm piece.

I built these for DBA/HoTT but I have used them with Commands and Colors Ancients and they would also work for WAB, Hail Caesar or whatever takes your fancy. The painting is some of my better work. There are 112 foot, 13 mounted, and 1 artillery piece.

FS painted 28mm Norman Army

I have for sale a painted 28mm Norman army. These are based on a 60mm frontage so work for HoTT, DBA, and Dux Bellorum. They could also be double based for Impetus, fudged for Hail Caesar or popped off their bases (all have integral bases) for WAB or SAGA.

There are 86 foot, 25 mounted and one aerial figures. These were built for DBA so they make may Norman-esque DBA armies. The price of the bare lead (unpainted) is about $125. I'm asking $150 plus postage (about $35 in Canada or the US because the metal figures are heavy). These are from a smoke- and pet-free home.

There are 8 bases of mounted: 7 bases have three riders each and one base has two riders. These are plastic Conquest Miniatures Normans. Shields are hand painted.

The core of the army are 12 bases of metal four-man foot units. These are predominantly Old Glory and about half have decalled shields (rest are hand painted).

There are 2 bases of metal seven-man hordes. A couple of these guys are armoured but most are bare-headed peasants.

There is a metal war wagon with a plastic rider and metal runner alongside. No idea who makes the wagon but there are two metal figures on board.

There are 3 bases of two-man skirmishers (combination of crossbows and spears). I'd use these as psiloi in DBA.

There are also 3 bases of missile troops with four shooters per base (all crossbow).

For those playing HoTT (or other games with heroes/leaders) there is 1 base with a hero standing on a small rise with a musician playing the lute as well as 1 base of three warriors with spears.

Finally, there is a murder of crows (or a glutter of ravens) as an aerial unit.

I have for sale a painted 28mm Saxon army. This was originally built for DBA and HoTT but the 60mm frontages would also work for Dux Bellorum, Impetus and Hail Caesar (the latter two with some fudging). All of the figures have integral bases so you could also easily dismount (short soak will loosen the glue) if you wanted to play WAB or SAGA.

The army comprises 64 foot, 6 mounted and three aerial figures. The bare "metal" cost of these figures is about $75. I would like $100 for them plus $25 postage (in Canada or the US). These are from a smoke- and pet-free home.

The bulk of the army comprises 12 four-man bases of foot. These are Wargames Factory Saxons (some armoured, some not) with handpainted shields. There also appear to be a few Old Glory metals and at least one GW LotR figure in here.

There are also 2 three-horse bases of cavalry. These are Conquest Games Normans with round shields and heads from Wargames Factory.

There are also 2 seven-man bases of hordes and 1 two-man base of skirmishers (psiloi in DBA).

Finally, to give this army some additional mobility in HoTT, there are three bases of plastic war hawks.

EDBAG battle for the mountains

Last night was the fourth night of the EDBAG HoTT campaign and there were six guys out. The goal of the campaign is to get four mountain spaces on the Board and Dave was close at the beginning of the night (holding three). That made him the target.

First game saw the dwarves come to the aid of the misunderstood imperials who (quite innocently) wandered into the realm of the ice queen. This game was going badly for the ice queen (think "swearing and thrown dice" bad) until she managed to ensorcel both Darth Vader and the Emperor and thus pushed back the invasion.

Over on the other table, Dennis and Scott squared off with Bruce supporting Scott. Dennis managed to bag Scott's stronghold with a sneaker and win his second mountain. These two forces would face off again in the second game with a general kill win for Dennis, thereby taking one of Scott's home territories. Dennis was unstoppable!

The imperials dusted themselves off for a second go at the ice queen, this time with the help of Bruce's imperial Romans (us emperors got to stick together). This went better for Dave despite some gamey terrain play using lurking probe droids. Dave's dice came around in this game, though!

As Dave advanced into heavy blaster fire, the Emperor and Darth Vader made an end-run to bag the ice queen's stronghold. We had then a long period of back and forth as the stronghold held out against sabre thrusts (for five or six turns--how many sixes are on that die!) and the stormtroopers (rather luckily) pushed back the icemen. Eventually Dave's luck ran out and the stronghold fell just before the stormtroopers crushed his army. The imperials scored their first mountain square.

Up next: Some 25mm terrain and then some 15mm cavalry.

FS 28mm viking army

The closet clean-out continues with this painted 28mm viking army. There are 56 foot, 6 mounted and 3 aerial figures in this army. If you play DBA 2.2, I think this gives you enough figures for all of the viking options. If you play HoTT, there are 38 AP here. This would also give you a good sized army for Dux Bellorum.

The majority of the foot are plastic Wargames Factory figures, although I believe there are some metal Old Glory fellows in the ranks as well as at least one GW figure. The mounted are conversions from Conquest Games plastic Normans. The aerials are Heroclix. All bases have a 60mm frontage and all figures have an integral base so they are relatively easy to unbase (a short soak) and then attach to individual bases if you are playing WAB. All from a pet- and smoke-free home.

There are 10 bases of mailed troops (blades in DBA or HoTT). I think the shields are nicely done for brush work. Only one guys has horns on his helmet (they will clip off!) and there is a leader base with standard.

There are four bases of light troops, including two bases of bow and two bases of skirmishers or lurkers. Not sure if the bow came from the set or if I had to snag them from another plastic set.

There is one base of berserkers and two bases of mounted troops.

Finally, there are three bases of eagles (blood eagles?) to give a HoTT army some aerial options and increase the mobility of the vikings some.

I'd like $110 OBO plus shipping. Shipping is going to be about $30 so let's call it $25 in Canada or the US. If it is more, I'll cover it, and, if it is less, I'll refund the difference. All bases bubble wrapped and floated in foam. Offers to bob.barnetson@shaw.ca.
