Horrified: American Monsters

A few years back, I painted up the classic movie monster figures that came in the boardgames Horrified. A second version of the game was released that focused on North American monsters. A fellow asked me to paint his and I finished them this week.

Above, left to right, we have the Banshee of the Badlands, Mothman, and Sasquatch. Below, left to right, there is and the Jersey Devil, the Ozark Howler, and the Chupacabra. These are putative 28mm (how big is Mothman, really?).

The pose of the Jersey Devil made it hard to get a decent shot of it, so I have included a few angles below.

The only monster I really recognized was Sasquatch and I have compared the Horrified version (right) with a metal version plus a Steve Austin. The plastic version compares well!

Up next: Some more Star Wars.

Random Star Wars Imperial Assault

I moved a few more 28mm Imperial Assault figures off the bench today. Bases are as requested by the owner. First up are 0-0-0 and BT-1, sociopathic assassins who delight in the termination of "meatbags". I guess? These are from some comic book featuring Darth Vader. Seems like they're just milking players at this point, though.

Then Jabba. This was a nice sculpt and an easy paint.

Finally, there is a boy and his Bantha. This sculpt is big and had a nasty bend to the rifle that straightened right out using hot water. Then came back. Then straightened again with more hot water. Then came back. Got it as straight as I could after an application of heavy cursing and holding it as it cooled.

For whatever reason, the lighting washed out the water, yellow tone in the top and bottom pictures. The picture below is a truer sense of the tone of the figure.

Up next: Some boardgames figures I'm painting for another fellow and then back to more Star Wars.

Scooby-doobie-doo!

I finished up the Scooby gang this week. These are 28mm figures from Hasslefree Miniatures.

Overall, nice figures. It is tricky to render the simple 60-style cartoon drawings into 3-D with enough details to make a good figure.

I'm not sure why Daphne's face is so washed out here (might be a lighting thing). Or what the hell happened to her legs (although she is probably 70, so I guess wrinkles are to be expected).

If I see one at a sensible price, I will pick up a Hot Wheels Mystery Machine.

Star Wars AT-ST

I have been working my way through a small collection of Star Wars Imperial Assault figures for a friend. This week, I managed to get the AT-ST chicken-walker done.

The model comes with several options for the top hatch, including a commander (a named character I can't recall), and a closed hatch (ALWAYS CLOSE THE HATCH!).

There are also a couple of weapons options, including the pop-up gun below.

 Overall, a nice model.
