Vive le revolution!

A friend dropped me by this 54mm figure that he picked up in, I think, Cuba (that is the marking on the bottom, anyhow). It is a pre-painted collector figure.

I assumed this was Che or Trudeau's dad, but I was assured it was just a simple, freedom-loving peasant.  I did a quick highlight and wash (like 5 minutes?) and I'm super happy with the result.

Up next: Some Star Wars and then some Scooby-Doo!

54mm AWI riders

After months of avoiding them, I finished the last three mounted AWI figures I had. These are plastic figures from (I think) Armies in Plastic. I lopped off the tricorns and put some smaller helmets nicked from a HaT SYW Prussian infantry set.

These aren't meant to be any particular unit. The green coats are generic enough to be used on either side. Just trying to finish off some extra figures that were laying about.

Not my best paint job ever. I always forget how much surface area there is on a 54mm figure!

54mm AWI Loyalists

I've been grinding away on some reinforcements for my 54mm AWI Brits and I finally finished these 12 guys. Big figures take forever! There is both a lot to paint and any mistake shows very clearly.

These are plastic HaT Prussians. I have a box of these sprues that I'm slowly grinding through. They have three different hats you can choose among. There is a sprue of troops plus there is a command sprue (not shown).

I painted these are quasi-Loyalists (no particularly historical unit in mind) with green jacks and red cuffs and turn backs. I keep them simple (limited braiding and other fiddly stuff).

Overall, they are okay and offer some extra troop options. I hope to get a game of AWI going over the holidays, COVID willing.

Up next: Some 28mm Gotham coppers and maybe more Trek?

Job lot of sci-fi

I'm on vacation this week and trying to be outdoors so only a few figures to show. First up is a mech guy Terry 3-D printed and gifted me.

This guy is big (28mm Pulp Figure archaeologist for scale, also new). I'm not sure on the scale of the print--not quite 54mm. Probably most useful as a sci-fi terrain piece statue?

I also knocked off a 54mm Mr. Spock. I see I slopped some gold braid (#$!*&^$) so will need to go back and tidy that.

This completes my TOS crew (I also have a different Kirk and a Pike, not show).

Up next: Some more 3mm WW2, I think.

Steve Austin and Big Feet

This week I have a mixed bag of TV figures. First up is the $6 million man and a pair of Big Feet. 

Steve Austin is from Crooked Dice and came with a bionic woman, whose ankle broke immediately. Sadly, we did not have the technology. We could not repair her. So into the bin she went. The Sasquatch are Pulp Figures.

The figure has a Heroclix vibe but is metal and has great detail (note grip pattern on right shoe sole!)

I bought this figure mostly so I could tell this story. So, it is 1971 and songwriter Dan Weatherly calls his buddy Lee Majors. Majors is not home but Farrah Fawcett picks up. They chat and she's going home on the red eye to Houston to see her mom.

Weatherly then writes a song, swapping the plane for a train and Houston for Georgia. And, in 1973, Gladys Knight and the Pips ride Midnight Train to Georgia to number one. All thanks to Steve Austin.

I also knocked off two 54mm Star Trek sculpts. No idea why Janeway's outfit photographs so much lighter than Sisko's. Maybe the wash was different? Almost have my collection complete--just need the elusive DS9 crew sculpts and a Spock (he's on the paint bench right now).

Trek, Hessians and Terrain

A bit of a post-vacation grab-bag this week.

First up are some STTOS 54mm metals. Above is Captain Pike and Lt. Sulu. Below is another Sulu (?) and Scotty.

I also painted and based three tombstones (I think these are Cthulhu markers I got fro Chen).

And, finally, the last of the 54mm Hessians.

Up next: There are quite a number of 25/28mm Star Wars figures on my painting table right now.

54mm Hessians

A long-delayed painting project is some Hessian regulars in 54mm to supplement my Tricorne forces.

These are some HaT SYW plastics I picked up a few years ago.

For plastics, they are very nice figures at a much lower cost than metals. The hats are interchangeable so you can make regulars, fusiliers, and grenadiers from the same figures.

They are designed to replace the Hessians I painted a few years ago (below left) from an old set of children's toys.

I have one more four-man unit drying (got out of sync with basing).

Grab bag of Big Trek and small Game of Thrones

Okay, so this week is a bit of a job lot of painting. First up is a 90mm Sisko from DS9. This is maybe the largest figure I've ever painted.

For scale, a 54mm Picard and 25mm Imperial Guard. Got this in a job lot; no idea what to do with it (initiative marker? "Who has the Sisko?").

I also cleared off a few 15mm Battlelore Westeros figures. Two cavalry here (I think these are characters) plus three assorted foot.

And then some 54mm trek A few STTOS crew: Chekov, Kirk and McCoy.

And then a STTNG Klingon with pain stick.

Up next: I think some 54mm AWI and then some more sci-fi.

Last Star Trek for awhile

These will, I promise, be the last of the 54mm Star Trek for awhile. I have some 28mm zombies on the table right now and some 28mm Star Wars monopoly pieces (yes, really) ready to prime.

Today, I finished off the STTNG figures I have with Troi, Guynan, and Crusher.

These pictures are just terrible and make the faces look appalling. They look much better in real life. No idea what is going on but I wonder if the matt finish if playing tricks on the camera?

Anyhow done for now.

I also finished off a Sulu!

Still no gaming for the foreseeable future so I hope to make a dent in the last box of zombicide that I have (the prison expansion). I'm going to give the Zeds a go now and save the characters for Zomtober.

More bridge crew

Painting multiples (yay, job lot on eBay) is interesting. The Data's below are the same figure, presumably out of the same mold, but have different faces.

As cool as I thought he STTNG uniforms were in 1989, they don't look as cool as the DSP/Voyager era outfits. Apologies for the glare--I used a matt finish but there are some weird light effects going on.

And William Riker, lover, action hero, better in slimming black.

Apologies for the soft focus--not sure what happened there.

Up next: Maybe some solo gaming. A 28mm D&D figure is almost done. Then some more 54mm STTNG. Then maybe some 28mm zombies and 54mm AWI.

Captain, my captains!

More 54mm Star Trek, this time JLP in various poses and uniforms.

Do his hips seems a touch pinched in this sculpt? Might be a trick of the light.

This is a later pose with a fancier base. I see his shoe needs a touch up.

Same pose as the first but in a DS-9/Voyager era uniform.

Geordi's, Worf's, you're with me!

The joy of eBay is you get what you get and you don't get upset. So I got a bunch of Geordi's and Worf's as part of a big lot.

These are 54mm Rawcliffe figures. In hindsight, I should have painted one Geordi in a red shirt.
