28mm Crimean British regulars

I finished off the first half of a huge group of 28mm Foundry British for the Crimea. These appear to be regulars with some kind of field cap and coat.

These sculpts are from 1993ish and no longer appear in the Foundry catalogue as far as I can tell.

Last few baddies from Imperial Assault

 Last of the Imperial Assault 28mm. first up are some baddies. Greedo flanked by two generic hired gun.

I was leery of the palette for these but they turned out okay.

Greedo I figured would be very hard (I hate painting green skin--I can never get the colour right) but the sculpt made it easy.

Maul posed two challenges: bent light sabre (I tried everything to get it to straighten out) and dark palette with red tattoos.

Basically I'm happy. The base is totally kick ass in person but looks like garbage in this photo for some reason. I wonder if the camera is struggling to reconciling the dark skin and lighter rocks.

Outer Rim Imperial Assault

Yes, still on with the Star Wars but it is coming to an end soon. Back to Crimea.

First up are droid friends on Tatooine. Then some bounty hunters (and hunted) in lusher climes.

I was super stressed out by Bossk. Turned out to be dead easy.

 Up next: A few Star Wars baddies.

Imperial Assault Hoth

This week, some more 28mm Imperial Assault figures.

 From the snowy wastelands of Hoth we have two troopers, Leia and an Imperial baddy.

I spent a stupid amount of time trying to get the tone right on Leia's jacket. Paint, paint, perfect. Add wash. Crap. Remove paint, cursing wildly. More painting. More cursing.

What was most interesting was examining the movie stills to sort out the details on the rebel Hoth troopers. A completely different colour palette than my 1980 Kenner action figures had led me to believe.

Star Wars Imperial Assault

Painting progress has been slow as work absorbed too much time. But I'm back on track and doing some 28mm Imperial Assault figures for a friend.

 

I'm always a bit nervous about doing character figures because people have very definite ideas about what they should look like.

IG-88 was dead simple. I spent some more time looking at images of Han Solo to try and get the colours right.

And a second unit of 28mm Foundry French/Sardinians for the Crimea.

A different pose than last week's unit but about of the same level of cursing and fiddliness!

28mm Crimea French

 Missed a week of posting due to some work distractions plus nicer weather (hello, summer bicycle!). But today I finished off from more 28mm Crimean from Foundry.

These are French/Sardinian troops. There are four command and eight troopers. Not sure I got all of the details right but close.

Nice figures overall. Need to find an appropriate flag.
