28mm A-Team

Crooked Dice miniatures recently released some A-Team figures. These are, I think, better sculpts the Foundry B-Team, which is the other option I can find.

Hannibal is a nice figure and Crooked Dice actually has a second Hannibal option.  Oddly neither seems to be holding the correct weapon for the character (a stainless Ruger Mini-14).

Overall, these are nice sculpts that capture the essence of the characters. I see I slopped Faceman's ascot.

The BA Baracus figure is very dynamic which make sit hard to paint and photograph (his punching arm is in the way and casts shadows. Looks like I need to go back and darken his eyebrows.

I was pretty happy with the skin tone I managed to get.

The figures scale well with other Crooked Dice offerings and are a bit smaller than Tangent Miniatures' Dirk Benedict figure.

Up next: No Zombtober for me this year but I will be finishing up a bunch of 28mm odds and ends.

More generic army guys

I finished a second box of Terminator figures that I received from Jonathan. I decide to give these fellows a grey jump suit with black trim.

I think these would be useful for modern urban troops or near-future sci-fi (my initial idea had been the MACOs from Star Trek: Enterprise).

Up next: A few more TV characters.

ST:VGR crew

So continuing last week's post about converting some 25mm ST:TNG monopoly tokens, I had a number of figures left over. I painted Guinan as was (since I didn't her). The remainder, I converted into the beginnings of a ST:VGR crew

I converted Troy into Janeway by scraping down Troy's uniform and giving Janeway full coverage with some modelling putty. Clearly, the Perry brothers are in no danger of being replaced.

I then cut off Troy's hair, smoothed the back of the figure, etched the uniform line in, and added the big Janeway 'doo. Overall, not terrible.

Riker became Chakotay by having his beard filed off, some paint colour reversals, and bit of tiny face tattooing (involving a lot of swearing). This was probably the most successful conversion.

Jordi became Tom Paris by scraping of the visor and the modelling a face and big playboy hair.

Paris looks better in person but obviously I need some practice with faces!

Crusher posed problems because of her lab coat. But B'Elanna work a smock in two seasons (one to cover the actress's pregnancy and one because the character was pregnant). So Crusher became B'Elanna by filing off Crusher's bangs and adding some brow ridges. I also re-positioned her arm a bit. The ridges are easiest to see in person (kind of washed out here).

I need a few more figures (Doctor, Kim, Tuvok, Seven, maybe Nelix) to complete the crew so I'll keep my eyes open for another set of figures.

ST:DS9 crew

Over the past few years, I've painted up a couple of sets of monopoly tokens as 25mm ST:TNG and ST:TOS crews. These helped flesh out my Last Unicorn Away Team

A few weeks back, I saw another set of the ST:TNG figures which included the super rare four extra tokens you mail away for so I bought them. When I got them, I was like meh. Plus I now had a bunch of duplicate figures. But looking at them I was like, you know, these could be converted with some paint to ST: DS9.

So here is most of the crew of Deep Space 9. Some of the paint jobs look hilariously bad on film, which is not the case in person.

I used one of the mail-away (Dr. Pulaski) to make Dax. Some kind of weird frosting effect with the sealer has washed out her face. Picard became bald Sisko (the best Sisko), and Miles O'Brian stars as himself.

I already had a Tasha Yar, so she becomes Major Kira (with some kind of crazy Joker face). Data becomes Doctor Bashir. Wesley becomes Odo, and Worf get a command tunic and promotion. I need to find a Quark and a Rom.

For a "why not?" project, I'm happy. I used some putty to get a start on a ST:VGR crew that I'mm show next week. But I need ("NEED") another set of tokens to finish that off.

Generic army dudes

I did not quite get the basing done on the Star Trek figures I've been working on (just ran out drying time) so, instead, here are 17 generic modern special forces and/or sci-fi ground pounders/space marines.

There are 28mm plastics from the Terminator game from a few years back (although the figure above is a resin character figure). Jonathan kindly passed this box onto me.

The box comes with four sprues. Each sprue has four bodies. Three of the bodies have inter-changeable arms and weapons. The fourth body just has a couple of choices of different arms.

I mixed and matched as best I could to avoid same-same poses. I think these guys would do for grunts in a GI Joe army. Or any kind near future or sci-fi setting.

I have another box of these to build. i was thinking of doing them in grey jump suits along the line of the MACOS in the later seasons of Star Trek: Enterprise.

Up next: Some ST:DS9 28mm.

Last of the 3mm

This week, I finished the last of my 3mm Rommel painting. The biggest lot was 20 German infantry bases of two different types (samples below).

I'm sorry the pictures are poor--they are just too tiny for my camera even with a tripod and zoom.

Rommel also requires each side to have a supply base. I used some spare models and some sculpty to try and fabricate a representation of a pair of depots.

These look better in person than they do no camera. Can you see the guy mooning the camera?

Up next: Probably some 25mm Star Trek again. Then some 28mm sci-fi.

Street car

It was a slow week on the paint bench as I fiddle with the last of the 3mm WW2. In the meantime, I knocked off a repaint of an HO-scale street car for my Gotham layout.

This came in a pack of two. One was nice painted and this one was not (glossy bright green with silhouettes of riders in windows). I decided on a basic and gritty paint job, based loosely on the trolley at Fort Edmonton.

Good enough. I very much appreciated Bruce's use of a trolley as mobile cover during some gangster games so this gives me the same option.
