The Kaiser's Bavarian Dwarves?

The joy of the job lot at the club's auctions are getting weird things. Like these dwarves. There are at least three manufacturers in here and the common theme is some sort of vaguely WW1 German version of dwarves. I think I will put this unit back in the club auction this spring (unless someone wants to buy it earlier) and see what they fetch.

Some of these were painted before I got them (the bagpiper, the officer) and a couple I finished up. The backs of the figures have some nice detail as well. I quite like the flamethrower guy.

Up next: Some HoTT at EDBAG tonight. Then I just finished some 25mm stockyards for a superheroes game. Now onto some more 15mm cavalry.

FS 28mm viking army

SALE PENDING

The closet clean-out continues with this painted 28mm viking army. There are 56 foot, 6 mounted and 3 aerial figures in this army. If you play DBA 2.2, I think this gives you enough figures for all of the viking options. If you play HoTT, there are 38 AP here. This would also give you a good sized army for Dux Bellorum.

The majority of the foot are plastic Wargames Factory figures, although I believe there are some metal Old Glory fellows in the ranks as well as at least one GW figure. The mounted are conversions from Conquest Games plastic Normans. The aerials are Heroclix. All bases have a 60mm frontage and all figures have an integral base so they are relatively easy to unbase (a short soak) and then attach to individual bases if you are playing WAB. All from a pet- and smoke-free home.

There are 10 bases of mailed troops (blades in DBA or HoTT). I think the shields are nicely done for brush work. Only one guys has horns on his helmet (they will clip off!) and there is a leader base with standard.

There are four bases of light troops, including two bases of bow and two bases of skirmishers or lurkers. Not sure if the bow came from the set or if I had to snag them from another plastic set.

There is one base of berserkers and two bases of mounted troops.

Finally, there are three bases of eagles (blood eagles?) to give a HoTT army some aerial options and increase the mobility of the vikings some.

I'd like $110 OBO plus shipping. Shipping is going to be about $30 so let's call it $25 in Canada or the US. If it is more, I'll cover it, and, if it is less, I'll refund the difference. All bases bubble wrapped and floated in foam. Offers to bob.barnetson@shaw.ca

Now, if you wanted to get crazy and refight the Battle of Five Armies, you could add in the LoTR good and evil armies I have for sale for a total cost of $350 (for three armies!) and I'll cover the shipping for the whole lot in Canada or the US.

Some superhero NPCs

The weather appears ready to warm Sunday which will allow me to prime a bunch of things I have ready. In the meantime, I knocked off a few NPCs for Gotham. Super System uses groups of NPCs that act as a single character and the figures usually operate in multiples of five.

First up were some ninja. I ran short a figure so threw in Lobster Johnson (no really, that is his name) with a handgun. Good pulp sculpt from Heroclix.

I also did up a band of hench(wo)men for The Joker using martial arts themed Heroclix. A bit like angry Kiss groupies, but whatever. You can get a pretty nice look from these with a bit of highlight painting and some washing.

Then there were a cluster of extras. The ladies on the left and right could supplement the Joker's cohort. The lady with the whip could be a generic adventurer. The fellow in white looked like a gangster.

Running this figure down online, he is The Scourge--a Marvel character that assassinates dated supervillians in that universe (handy tool for editors, I suppose). This sculpt has him wielding an MP40 with some sort of extra grip welded to the left side of the barrel. The online description says he's normally armed with "a .50 cal Thompson machine gun with a sawed-off barrel and stock using special purpose 5-round clips." Well, I guess it is the comics!

Up next: A buttload of priming, including some 15mm cavalry and some buildings. I also have some 28mm dwarves (the Kaiser's Bavarian Dwarf Commandos, by the looks of them) just about based. And EDBAG meets Tuesday night for HoTT.

FS 6mm WW2 terrain blowout

SOLD!

Continuing with the "two years of dust and it is gone" rule, I have a collection of WW2ish 6mm buildings and terrain pieces that need to go.

This lots includes a Timecast railway station (presently running $5 unpainted from the manufacturer) as well as 15 75mm lengths of barbed wire and one set of dragon's teeth from Irregular miniatures (running $1.20 each unpainted at present).

There are also three buildings. Two (left and right) are Timecast houses sold via Baccus with plinths for $7 each unpainted. You can use these either with the plinths (buildings lift out to make room for troops) or just set the integral base on your terrain mat.

There is also a cluster of light industrial buildings. This is a really nice piece and could serve as an ammo dump or other objective. No plinth--just a since base. I don't know who makes it but I'd guess it runs about $15 based on what comparable JR mini pieces cost.

I'd like $45 OBO plus $21 postage (metal bases are heavy) in Canada or the US--so $66 all in. This is slightly less than the cost of the unpainted figures. Offers to bob.barnetson@shaw.ca.

FS 6mm ancients terrain blow out

SOLD!

As I apply the "haven't used it in two years" rule, I've come across a bunch of 6mm terrain that needs a new home. First up are the ancient pieces. This includes the castle below from JR miniatures.

I've added a paper keep to this castle to allow for a late-medieval look.

Or you can remove the paper keep and you get an older looking fortification. This model was running about $17 the last time I looked at JR pieces.

And ever castle needs a village full of pitch-fork wielding torch bearers. These are old Baccus cottages on plinths that were bought by Coyote Miniatures (which seems to be out of business?).

Anyhow, nice models with GW static grass. The Norman church is pretty and the models can be used with the plinth system or will also just sit flat on your terrain mat.

The windmill rotates on the base (so it can face any direction), but the blades are glued in a fixed position. This sets was running about $25 the last time I looks.

I'd like $43 OBO plus postage (which will be $17 in Canada or the US--so $60 all in). A nice Xmas present for your or your friend. Will bubble wrap all pieces and float in peanuts. Offers to bob.barnetson@shaw.ca.

WIP 28mm stockyards

I'll be offline for a few days but wanted to post up a work in progress. This is an abandoned stockyard that will appear in the warehouse district of Gotham. This is an older Walther HO train kit but will do just fine for 28mm figures.

The kit (below) includes two small stockyards or one big one (depending on how you build it). I chose to build two smaller stock yards (more flexible) that can be jammed together if necessary. There was also a leftover shed and loading shoot and (with some card) enough to make a couple of corrugated steel fences.

This was a fairly fiddly kit with lots of look-alike pieces. The first one took me about an hour and a half while the second one took only 45 minutes. I secured some sand to the base using future (what can't that stuff do?) and I will prime and paint when the temperature comes up about 10 degrees outside.

I downloaded Super System 3rd Edition last week and I'm keen to have enough terrain to pull off a small game soon. I could use a couple of more small buildings and some accessories. I've also built the next 18 15mm cavalry--again, awaiting decent priming weather. And I pulled out some old HO train cars for rolling stock sitting on a siding.

FS Warbands of the Spanish Main

SOLD!

I've been collecting various odds and sods from club auctions over the years and am now working on clearing them off my shelves. Today I finished two groups that seem to have a Spanish Main theme.

First up are the Governor's household, which includes Mrs. McGovernor and three ladies in waiting (although the one on the left is sporting a noticeable adam's apple). To defend their honor, we have three swashbuckling younger sons of the nobility.

The governor seems to have settled in to the relaxed pace of things in the Caribbean. But his two lieutenants are starting to come unhinged. The fellow on the left has a peg-leg and a terrible eye infection while the guy (?) on the right must be awfully hot in that armour.

There are some scullery maids. Nice legs, shame about the face(s).

And, of course, the Spanish Inquisition. Cue tedious parroting of Monthy Python skit

The waters of the Caribbean are not very safe and there is a nasty band of local pirates to give the Governor something to worry about. We have quite a collection of brutes and scallywags with a mixture of cutlasses and pistols. Some nice painting here, I think.

As I don't game a lot of skirmish, I'd like to pass these on. There are $26 figures here and I'll ship the any where in Canada or the US for $50 (shipping is going to cost at least $15 so you'd getting these for $1.25 a figure). Offers to bob.barnetson@shaw.ca .
