6mm Roman command, cavalry, and lights

Continuing on with this random 6mm painting project, I finished up some more Romans. These have been awaiting basing for quite some time.

There are four command bases. I also painted up 8 bases of light troops. Light troops are always unrewarding to paint and base, but they are just so useful in games!

Finally, I did the Roman cavalry the were in the box. Six bases of three. All are on 1x1-inch bases.

Up next: Probably some pulp 28s.

Cobra weapon of mass destruction

I'm still waiting for Hasslefree Miniatures to finish their restock before ordering a couple of figures that I need to fill out my Cobra army.

In the meantime, I painted up this scientist and his death ray from Pulp Figures as a Cobra lackey. A death ray has the grandiose impracticality that one would expect from Cobra Commander.

Up next: More pulp and some 6mm figures.

Sci-fi grab bag

My painting is slowing down as summer opens up options like cycling, kayaking, and gardening. But I'm committed to rolling out something new every week.

This week is a mixed bag of sci-fi, including two ST:TNG and one BSG figure.

These Star Trek figures are from (I think) Victory Force Miniatures and have been on my paint table for a couple of years. The outfit is sculpted as a mesh-mash of TOS and TNG so I painted them as TNG.

They more or less fit in with the other 25/28mm TNG figures I have.

The missing Jolly from my Tangent Miniatures order also arrived. I wanted to get him painted while I could still recall what colours I used on his colleagues.

He seems to fit in okay.

Up next: An addition to my Cobra army than probably some 6mm ancients.

More Cobra

A second squad of Cobra goons. I wanted to differentiate them from last week's crew. Some googling showed that some version of Cobra had darker face masks. That seems like the easiest way to switch them up.

I wonder if I should have painted their shoulder pads black? I may go back and do that.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this set of proxies. Nice detail, the wash makes the cartoonish colouring I was looking for work.

There are a couple of more figures that I want to pick up to complete this set of troops but I will need to wait for some to comeback into stock to make the postage worthwhile.

Up next: Either 6mm ancients or some misc sci-fi.

Cobra troopers

Awhile back, I'd painted up two Pulp Figures figures as Cobra Commander and Destro. The problem was finding minions for them to command. A good option looked like these guys from Victory Force Miniatures but they never responded to me.

I was cruising through Pulp Figures catalogue and, on a lark, looked at their German Jet Troopen. Minus the jet packs and these guys looked pretty much the part.

The helmets are perhaps a bit too coal scuttle and the weapons are obvious WW2. But Cobra always struck me as proxy Nazis anyhow.

I painted this squad with red masks, which is what I remembers from the cartoon. I just free-handed a quasi-Cobra logo on the armoured plating. I think they'll do a pulp era baddies.

Up next: Some more Cobra
