II/11 Gallic, 400-50BC
II/53 Ancient British, 55BC-75AD
This 28mm DBA army was intended as an opponent for my Romans. I started with one box of Wargames Factory Celtic foot and from that built eight bases of 3Wb and one base of 4Wb (General) as the core of the army.
The warband allows allows the army to be effective in bad going, to double move into contact, and quick kills blade. I spent some time add capes and cloaks to the fellows in the first row but built the remaining six bases straight from the box.
There are also three bases of 2Ps. These skirmishers are a mix of "straight from the box" builds and a few conversions, including the standing bow man on the left base. The hard plastic figures make conversions a treat!
The army also requires up to four chariots (including an optional general). I have three bases done and a forth on the way (will update when it arrives and is done). As compared to the tears I shed with 15mm chariots, these plastic chariots were a dream to assemble! Again, Wargames Factory 28mm plastics.
There are two bases of 3Cv to flesh out the Gallic army. These are Wargames Factory plastics. Similarly, there are two bases of Wargames Factory plastics acting a 2Lh skirmishing mounted.
As I'd like to use this army as a HoTT army, I have started adding a few fantasy bases. First up is the 28mm Warlord Games metal druid below. The standing stone was "sculpted" on the fly from a wad of blue tack that was stuck to my painting table.
I expect to add some centaurs shortly. I also plan to add a female magician surrounded by a pile of severed heads from the bits box. And I'd like to do a hero figure. These would all be plastic conversions.
Finally there is a camp. The figures are 28mm Warlord Games metals and the rest is model railroad terrain or junk from the yard.
